Citizen of the Cherokee Nation; Descendant of the Blackfeet Nation
Summer was born on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, Montana and spent her toddler years there. She grew up in a small farming community in Central Washington near the Yakama Indian Reservation on her grandmother's small farm.

Summer knew from a young age that she was meant to pursue a legal career to help advocate for her relatives. While attending Central Washington University, Summer created her own pre-law program and holds degrees in both Law & Justice, and Philosophy (with honors) with minors Sociology and Ethics.

While attending the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law and the Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy Program (IPLP), Summer immersed herself in the IPLP curriculum. Summer was the first legal intern at the International Indian Treaty Council, held leadership with both the Native American Student Law Association and the Environmental Journal of Environmental Law & Policy, and published a law review article on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Womxn, Girlx, 2-Spirit, and Relatives epidemic. Summer holds both a juris doctor (J.D. or law degree) and an LLM (legal masters degree) from the College of Law, both with certificates in Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy.

While a student, Summer began a fellowship with the Water Protector Legal Collective and subsequently began serving as staff attorney for human rights and general counsel at International Indian Treaty Council. Summer's article on MMIWG2SR was cited in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2022 to support the notion that Indigenous Peoples are left to "sacrifice zones" when it comes to environmental violence.

Summer then accepted a full-time position with Water Protector Legal Collective as a staff attorney working on international human rights, direct representation in civil rights cases - including working with political prisoners, and broader advocacy and accompaniment.

Currently, Summer is a legal advisor with the International Indian Treaty Council; an at-large board member serving the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center; and serves as secretary to the board for Sovereign Bodies Institute.
